MANCHESTER SQUARE.
(TO THE EDITOR.) Sir, — I was very much pleased to see by Mr West's letter published in this evening's Star that there is someone protesting against the absurdity oi' blocking up the two main direct thoroughfares through the town by erecting the post office, or indeed any building whatever, either in the centre or upon any other part of the Square. It appears to me perfectly unnecessary for anyone who will give himself the trouble of thinking about the matter at all to support th« above protest by argument, and I shall therefore refrain from doing so. I don't even approve of what has been done opposite Mr Cobbe's premises ; even if thu rest of the Square is treated in a similar manner it will never be kept "in proper order" without incurring great expense. lam still strongly of opinion that the most suitable manner of treating the four several plots of the Square is what I suggested in your columns some faw years ago — viz., to keep them laid properly in grass, kept in order, and enclosed separately with light posts and chains, painted white. I am, &c, KAML. GOODBIHBBE. Feilding, October 9th, 1897.
