Serious Railway Accident at Auckland.
THREE PERSONS KILLED. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, October 1. As tbe 10.20 train was leaving the Aucklaad Railway Station there was a block of 'buses near the crossing, and the train ran into a tramway 'bns loaded with people, which the driver had attempted to take across the line on bcarine the whistle, and thus escape.
The driver of the train, on seeing the 'bus through the darkness near the crossinp, it is said, put on the brake, and the crossing signalman raised his lamp, but the train struck part of the 'bus, shattering it, killing one horse and mangling another. The driver, William News, was seriously injured. A boy, said to be Charles Akers. had his right leg ripped up and his loft hand cat off. It in doubtful whether he wi'l recover. A man. said to be John O«borno, was injured in the back of the head, aud two other men, whoso names are not known, were also injured. The re»t of the pa-sengers escaped by leaping off the top aud out of the inside of the 'bus, beiug warned by tbe outcries of the 'bus driver and the cabmen adjacent. This Day. Among those seriously injured in tbe railway accident was Thompson Leys, aged 14 years, son of the editor of the Star. He died this morning. Ness, ths driver, and the boy Akers are also «iid.
