Curistchurch, Sept. 1. The supplies and attendance were below tbe average, bnt tbere was a fair tone in business. The entries comprised 7662 sheep, 380 cattle, 287 pigs, 159 fat cattle. Fat cattle were very irregular in quality, hut the improvement in price noted last week was fully maintained ; prime beef 18s to 19s per 1001 b, good 16b to 17s, ordinary cow 13s to 155, ; steers L 5 15s to L 7 15s, and np to L 8 17s 6d for bullocks ; beifers L 3 17s 6d to L 7, cows L 3 10s to L 7 10s. Dairy stock — A poor selection and business practically nil. Store cattle — Larger entries tban for some time past, but only odd lots were sold, and qnotations are nominal. Fat Sheep Small entry, consisting chiefly of email lines with a few straight lines of freezers, merino wethers and crossbred ewes. Freezers mat fair competition up to 2d par lb net for best merino wethert for export. Moet of the crossbred ewes were only halt fat, and the bail of theae were taken by graziers. Ordinary butchers' sheep were dull ol ■ale. Prime heavy wethers up to 18s, best freezing wethers 15a 6d to 17s, lighter 14s to 15*, half fat from 12s, maiden ewes (freezers) 13s to 15s 6d,best butchers' ewes 13a to 13a 6d, extra heavy 15a 3d, inferior to average 8a 6d to lla 6d, stores (good) 9s 6d to 10a 6d, merino wethers, 7s 9d to 11b sd, ewea 8a 'id to 9s, fat lambs 7s 6d to 15a 3d. Store Sheep - A line of exceptional hogget* 10s 7jd, ordinary hoggeta 7s fid to 8s 6d, fair conditioned wetbera 10s 6d to 12s, backward 8* 8d to 9s lOd, ewes with lambs 9s 8d to lla 6d, small line 17» 8d ; prices improving. Pigs— Baconera £1 10s to £2 10a 6i, porkers £1 to £1 6a 6d, stores 14a to £1 3s 6d, prime pork 2^i to 2Jd per lb, secondary 3d ; good demand. F. R. Jackson and Co. report on tbeir Johnson ville sale as follows: — The cattle entered for to-day's sale consisted of some large coarse bullocks. No prime beef came forward. Bidding whs rather dull, and the prices receded from those of last sale, and any really prime cattle would realise good values Cattle —Bullocks, £5 12 to t6 12s 6d ; half fat steers, L 4 17s 6d to L 5 2s 6d ; cows, L 8 12s 6d to 15.t 6d per lOOlbs for best and 14s for inferior. Sheep — Wethers, 19s 8d to 14s Id ; ewes, 9s 9d, 11s, ai)d 11s Id. Messrs J. Mowlem & Co. report at their regular stock sale held in Pahiatua on Friday 3rd insfc :— We bad a fair entry of sheep, but owing to the Mangatainoka Bridge being under repair, about 500 sheep were cut out of yards. A full yarding of cattle, every pen being fall, and about 50 in tbe large yards. A gocd sale, resulting greatly in favour of sellers for all classes except dairy cows. We quote— Weaners, 23s 6d ; 12 to 18mos, 28s to 34s ; 2 year olds to L 2 7s 6d ; heifers, L 3 10s; wethers, 9s 8d to 11s 3d ; hoggets, medium quality, to 5s lid. We sold after the sale a line of 30 2yr steers. Messrs Abraham and Williams report : A small entry came forward at cur howe aale on Saturday, including three wellbred racers in the estate of the late Mr O'Halloran. These wer# insufficiently advertised, and sold at low prices. Snap c»p only realised £9 si, Marama £10 15s, and Eileen Ll3. The medium and aged draughts offered sold freely at prices in favor of vendors. A line of sound young draught horses would sell well. Other sorts were at usual value. "We quote :— Medium draughts, £16 10s to £10 10* ; old do., £10 ; spring carter, £13 ; haeka, £4 to £5 10s ; light harness horse, L 5 10s ; aged sorts, 32a 6d to 57s 6>l.
