Messrs Gorton and Son report : — Since last report we held sales at Awahuri on Friday, Marton on Tuesday and Sandon on the following day. Empty ewes are difficult of sale at reduced rates, other classes sold readily, though no advance in prices was noticeable. At Awaburi we yarded close on 3000 sheep and all changed hands chiefly under the hammer but three lots. At Marton 2200 sheep were penned and all sold but a few pens of empty ewes. One line of 900 wethers realized 10s 3d. The Sandon sale was made unpleasant by the exceptionally rough weather, and though nearly all the advertised stock came forward, the attendance of buyers was limited. However, only two pens returned home unsold. The cattle market is still lifeless except for milkers to calve.
