Serious Bicycle Accident
A bicycle accident of a very seriouß character occurred ou Saturday night at about 8 o'clock at the foot of EJ)ic» Btreet, Wellington. It appears that Miss Maggie Virtue, daughter of Mr D. W. Virtue, was on her way home and while in the act of crossing the street just a few yards above its junction with Sussex square, a bicycle ridden by a young man came tearing down the street at its utmost speed, and before the young lady knew of its approach it struck her to the ground with great violence, rendering her insensible. Her face was streaming with blood and she moaned piteonsly. Mrs Doughty, with the assistance of some friends, kindly bad her carried into her house. Dr3 Young and Collins speedily arrived and found that besides slight concussion of the brain, several of her teeth were smashed, and the portions of them forced into her cheek?. Dr Young, who was first in attendance, soon removed these, and brought her round to consciousness, when she was removed to her parents' residence in a cab,— N.Z. Times.
