It has been definitely decided to hold the tableaux entertainment in collection with St John's Church on Friday, August 6th. As far as absence of fever is concerned Wellington people are in a healthy state ju«t now. There are no patients in tbe Hospital fever ward. It has been suggested that it wonld be a great convenience to people if letters addressed to up country places, were forwarded on when the local post master knows the place of residence of a person who has removed to another settlement within, perhaps, only a few miles. The sub-committee of tbe A. and P. Association appointed to draw up the dog and poultry schedule held their final meeting on Tuesday night. The prize list agreed to allots £80 to dogs and £25 to poultry. In the latter clasß the first prizes are all 15s and the second prizes 5s. — Standard. Mr Thomas Dwan, lecturing at Wellington on tbe flax industry, stated that bis recent visit to the United States and Canada proved to him that flax, as compared with sisal and Manila, was com pletely out of tbe running, and be was convinced that it would be better for New Zealand to destroy all its flax and use tbe gronnd for crops. At a committee meeting of tbe Feild ing Jockey Club, held last night, reports were received from tbe sub committees appointed to consider tbe appointment of a caretaker and planting tbe course It was decided to call for applications for the position of caretaker and also to proceed with tbe planting of portions the course with trees at once. Mr Gardener, sawmiller, of MaDakau, is about to shift his mill to the Upper Hutt. Tbe larger mill was closed 12 months ago, but tho smaller one has been in work until lately. The removal of this one will be felt at Manukau, for it was tbe means of circulating a good sum of money every month. Mr Gardener has taken np 500 acres at the Upper Hutt.— Farmer.
