Reduction of Freights.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 2. The Acting. Premier, the Hon. John McKenzie, has received a cablegram from the Right Honourable Richard Seddon regarding the carriage of prodace to London. Mr Seddon states that the question is progressing splendidly, and that a reduction of jd per lb all round is secured. Negotiations, he says, for further reductions are proceeding, The Premier also mentions that the Islington Co. , of Canterbury, has entered into a five years' contract at present prices. Mr Seddan bints that he is hopeful of securing further concessions. The Christchuroh Press says the Shipping Companies draw attention to the fact that while under their new contracts they are carrying meat from the Souch Island at 3d per lb vbere, is a great demand in Australia for insulated space, and upwards of }d per lb for mutton and |d for beef are freely offered. The Companies have refused offers of charter for their steamers at these rates to load in Australia.
