Record Reign Dance.

A plain and fancy dress ball was held in the Feilding Assembly Rooms last evening to commemorate Her Majesty's record reign, and resulted in a very pleasant gathering. The executive of the local Record Reign Commemoration Committee are deserving of every credit for the completeness of th« arrangement! which materially assisted to make every • thing pass off without the slightest hitch. There were abont sixty couples present and dancing was kept np with vigor until a late hour this morning to excellent music supplied by Mr R. F. Haybittle's string band. Before dancing commenced, the Mayor, Mr W. A. L. Bailey, asked the assemblage to sing the National Anthem, a request which was readily responded to. The ball was tastefully decorated for the occasion by Messrs W. Dickson, P. Giesan and A. N. Hayne with nikau and other ever greens. There were numerous flags of various nationalities, and also the several inscriptions appropriate to the occasion, painted by Me B. Gosling in his well known artistic style, and who, with his usual generosity, painted the designs and inscriptions free of charge, the whole presenting a most picturesque and gay appearance. No efforts were spared by the gentlemen named, assisted by others, in the direction of making the dance the brilliant success it was. Naturally the bulk of the work fell on the shoulders of the energetic secretary, Mr W. Dickson, but he was equal to the occasion and saw that every detail was complete in itself. The floor was in good condition while a sumptuous supper was provided by Mes»rs Arbon and O'Reilly, bakers and confectioners, the tempting viands being laid out on a table in the sample room adjoining the Assembly Boom. The fancy costumes worn were of a striking description, but the majority of the ladies and gentlemen present were in evening dress. The following, amongst others whose names we have been unable to ascertain, were in fancy dress : — Mr C. H. Coote, f Sir Joseph Porter, 1J.C.8" ; Mr D. French, " Italian Ministrel" ; Mr Wallace Hastie, " Page" ; Mr A. Hunter, "French Attache 1 "; Mr E. A.
