National Dairy Association, North Island Branch.

A meeting of the executive of the North Island branch of the National Dairy Association of New Zealand was held in Stratford on Saturday, 12th inst. The following business was transacted :- Resolved, That final steps be taken to have the Association registered so aa to become a body corporate. It is anticipated that when this is effected the Association will become still more useful as a factor in the welfare of the dairy industry. It is fell that until the Association obtains a legal status it is unable to cope satisfactorily with money matters which threaten the well-being of the industry. The executive discussed the qneution of calling tenders for the supply of butter.boxes and cheese-crates for members of the Association, and it was ultimately decided that the matter stand over to next meeting of executive and that in the meantime the secretary be instructed to make enquiries as to the cost of a butter box and cheese-orate making plant. The executive's action in this matter was the result of a desire on the part of a number of the members for some action to be taken especially as the saw-millers had now formed themselves into associations and had apparently decided to raise the price of boxes during the ensuing season to an unreasonable extent. The executive also dealt with the all important question of greater regularity of shipments, this having been of a very unsatisfactory nature daring the past season, so mnch so as to cause incalculable loss to the shippers. Several of the factories bad their contracts with Home firms cancelled purely on account of the intermittent character of the despatch and arrival of steamers. The executive has appointed a committee to interview the shipping companies with a view to secure more frequent and regular ship* menfcs. The committee will also urge the importance of more equitable rates of freight, seeing that now all batter is in a frozen state before being placed on board, apd being so does not require to be dunnaged on board, thereby effecting to them a fresh saving in cost of transit and space. Several other matters of minor importance wera dealt with.
