The house and furniture were insured for .£2OO in the Pbcenix. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce it was decided to hold an Industrial and Miuing Exhibition. Thirty four packages of valuable Maori carving 9 were brought up to Auckland by the schooner Aotea from Port Awatiui and Eaukokore The majority of the carvings are for the Auckland Museum, and include some fine specimens Dunkdin, June 3. At tbe Waikouaiti Licensing Committee, 11 o'clock licenses were granted to a number of hotels in Port Chalmers, but were declined for Waikouaiti. Fears are entertained for the safety of Wm. Gunn, a packer, who left Campbell Creek with a pack of horses on Friday nigbt for bis home at Coal Creek and has not jet put in an appearance. His horses wero found in a shingle creek, and it is thought that Gunu must have perished in a snow storm on tbe ranges. Search parties are being organised. The examination of tbe directors of tbe Ward Farmers' Association has been postponed till tbe 12th July. This Day. It has been decided to establish a Child ren'a Ward in tbe hospital as another record of tbe Jubilee Reign. One is al ready subscribed. Wellington, Jane 3. Mrs Neil I ba<* sent a further report to Dr MacGregor, in which she states the reply of the Benevolent Trustees is plausible and misleading, but she does not feel called on to go into further particulars at present. She personally visited 158 cases, and contends her criticisms were for the public benefit, and were not actuated by any spirit of antagonism to the trustees. By an Order in Council carbide of calcium is deemed " specially dangerous" under "The Dangerous Goods Act, 1882," aud a memorandum drawn up by Colonel Ma]endie, Inspector of Explosives in the United Kingdom, with reference thereto, is gazetted. Masteuton. June 4 Tbe Licensing Committee to-day refused two applications for new licenses for hotels at Mauriccville. All other applications were granted. Wanoanui, This Day. The Criminal Calonder for Monday is very heavy ; twenty four cises against the same number of prisoner?. The Conciliation Court has failed to induce all the employers to subscribe to the awkrd in the tailoring dispute. Oaly tbree, however, refuse nnd the Court will report that if the Arbitration Court in called in and varies award which is signed by twedtvifi ve firms the latter must have the benefit of the variation.
