Wanganui Divorce Case.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, June 3. In the Divorce Court, Soler deposed that be bad employed a man named Dale to get evidence in support of bis divorce, and bad offered £25 and L 75 to tbe cook and waiter at tbe hotel in Masterton, if they could prove in Court tbat Mrs Soler bad done wrong. Tbey, bowever, showed tbe letter to Mrs Soler. He afterwards employed Bassett, a private detectico of Wellington, who offered for LlO to get sufficient evidence. If be failed be was to get nothing Tbe petitioner denied telling a witness tbat be bad seeD a letter to the effect tbat be bad seen a letter to the effect tbat bis wife bad gone to a woman at Masterton to perform an operation. \V. G Bassett gave evidance as to watcbing tbe botel and seeing Mrs Soler enter Tucker's bedroom at 1 a.m. Bassett is the man who was pat on trial for being concerned in Detective Kirby's escape, and some amusement was caused by Mr Jellicoe remarking to him, " I believe you have been concerned with other kinds of cases, packing cases for instance." Witness retorted, " I believe you advised a man to clear, and I assisted him." With tbe conclusion of Bassett's examination, which was mainly directed as to tbe money be was to receive, tbo Court adjourned until tbe moruiug. Wanganui, This ,Day. In the Soler divorce case tbe morning was taken up with the examination of WiJmm Ton« who said be was born in the colony and educated at a State School. He described watching Tucker's room with Bassett and seeing someone enter it, but could not say who. Bassett gave him 30s a woek aud his expenses. Witness was cross-exainiued at great length by Mr Jellicoe.
