Mrs Barney at Palmerston N.

(By One of the Party.) A number of our local W.C.T.U. and others made tip a party to go to see and hear this talented lecturess. Mrs Barney makes a speciality of visiting the prisons on her route and preaching Gospel Temperanca to their inmates. Considerable success has crowned her efforts, and in this way many o( the worst criminals have been induced by her faithful and loving appeals to follow Christian lines of living. Lady Henry Somerset testifies that Mrs Barney is the best lady speaker the has heard on this branch of Christian work ; Miss Williard also gives her splendid credentials. Onr party fully endorsed these commendations. Mrs Barney dresses with exceeding taste, is of medium height, is very attractive in appearance and manner, and somewhat past middle life. As a speaker she is simple, ready, humourous, pathetic, and very improving, and retained ths full interest of her bearers for an hour and a half. Our party were delighted and benefitted by her address. The Presbyterian Hall was crowded, with mostly women, who received the lecture with enthusiasm. Mrs Barney urged the women of New Zealand to use their votes for the cause of temperance. She gave a graphic account of the crusade against the saloons, and after Miss Sears had sung a solo with much taste (he meeting concluded with prayer.
