The University Boat Race and Sports.

(Per Press Association.) London, April 4. Cambridge won the toss and selected the Middlesex side of the river. They got away with the lead, but failed to maintain the advantage for any distance At Clasper's Oxford had half a length's lead, the mile being covered in 3mins 55sec. The dark blues who were rowing strongly, forged ahead and shot Hammeremith Bridge with a lead of a clear length in 7min 20sec. At Chiswick the lead was increased by two lengths, and Barne's Bridge was passed with Oxford three lengths ahead. At this 6tage the light blues began to show pigns of distress. They made several gallant spurts, but were quite outclassed. Oxford won easy at the finish. The time for the full course was 19min 12secs, which has been beaten only on one occasion — viz., in 1890, when the time was 18min 47sec.
