The Prohibitionists.
(Per Press Association.) ; Wellington, March 17. i At a Prohibition meeting the Rev. F. W. Isitt said he had seen more drunken- \ ness in Wellington in three days than in • three weeks in Cbnstchurcb. That 1 morning four drunken women had been j hovering round the church and the previous day another had to be taken ; j away in a wheelbarrow. The other speakers made similar remarks upon the alleged prevalence of drunkenness here. The Post takes the speakers to task and declares the assertions a libel on the City. With reference to the statement made by the Rev. Mr Isitt at the depu tation to the Minister of Justice and contradicted by the Dunedin Liberty League, Mr Isitt states his authority was Mr A. S. Adams, solicitor, the Presi dent of the Duuedin Prohibition League, to whom complaints were made by voters, that the Local Option papers were not issued to them at booths. Mr Adams then interviewed the Returning Officer and fresh instructions were issued to the poll clerks.
