The Federal Convention.
CARDINAL MORAN REPLIES. (Per Press Association.) Stdnet, February 18. Cardinal Moran bas expressed himself warmly to an interviewer in reply to the attacks on bis candidature to the Federal Convention. He says he will stand for election as an individual only, and not at all as Cardinal or head of the Catholic Church, but as an Australian colonist. He went on to say—" I have all along, since the question was mooted, looked at what the doctrines are. I don't believe those who have advanced these doctrines know themselves. They don't agree on any point except abuse of me. They don't agree as to any of the tenets, and not any two of them know any doctrine in which they aeree. Federation is a question of vital importance to Australia, and I regard it in particniar as tbo only means of preventing one or other of the colonies going right over to extreme socialism. Protestant ministers say I have attacked their doctrines, but I never attacked any doctrines. When first my candidature was referred to I had no intention of offering myself for election, but when the cry of bigotry was raised I resolved to come forward in order to crush once and for ever this anti-Catholic bigotry."
