Supposed Accidental Drowning.

It will be remembered tbat in our Monday's issue it was reported that during the recent flood the carcase of a horse wiih a saddle and bridle on was seen floating down the Oroua river at Aorangi on Saturday morning by Mr Campion's boys. We have made numerous enquiries since with a view to ascertaining if anyone waa drowned in the river or how the horse came there without, up to the present, obtaining any definite information. The police have, also, made searching enquiries bnt without result. It is now rumoured that a Mr Currie, who ia a settler in Apiti, expected a brother who resides on the Valley road, near Palmer's, to go up to his place on Sunday where he was to obtain work, or, if he did not go on the Sunday the brother who resides on the Valley road was to send a wire to his brother at Apiti on Monday stating he was not going. It is said the Valley road brother has not put m an appearance, neither has he sent a wire that he was not going to Apiti. The inference is that Mr Currie must have been drowned in the river and it was his horse that was seen floating down but, of course, we are unable to vouch for the truth of the rumour and hope that there is no truth in it. Constable Tuohy is making every enquiry, but up ro thi time of our going to press to-day the rumour was not confirmed.
