Cricket News.

QUEENSLAND v. SOUTHLAND. (Per Press Association.) Invercargill, Jan. 20. There was fine, cold weather for the cricket match Queensland v. Southland commenced today. Southland batted first and made 84. At the call of time Queensland had put up 89 for the loss of four wickets. For Invercargill Rob* ertson made 12, Kingsland 31, and Morgan 10. Byrne took seven wickets for 24 runs.

There will be a practice on the cricket ground to-morrow morning, commencing at 10 o'clock. The representative match Wanganui V. Manawatu will be played tomorrow and Saturday at Palmerston North. The Wanganui team will go through by train to-night so as to get the match started in good time on Friday morning. The teams are both strong and a well conted match is anticipated.
