Folding School Excursion.

DROWNING ACCIDENT. Ad accident which resulted in the sad death of a young man named Leonard Cole, occurred at Foxton yesterday. The school children from Feilding had gone on an excursion to the Foxton Heads. During the afternoon three boys named Gonld, Franklin Browne, and Trevena got into Cole's boat, and while playing about with the boat the painter got loose, the boat drifting out into the stream. Tbe boys became alarmed and jumped overboard. They succeeded in reaching the shore safely, but yonng Gould had a narrow escape, and was pluckily assisted to the shore by yonng Trevena. Mr H WorsfoH also lent valuable help. In the excitement of res cuing the children the boat was allowed to float away, and noticing this, Cole pluokily swam out to bring her to shore, but failed to reach her, and before help could be obtained he was drowned. The unfortunate young fellow was about 23 years of age and was a son of MrE. Cole, fishmonger, of Palmerston North. His two mates made every effort to reach him, or recover the body, but they failed. During the excitement a lady visitor had a fit, but was ultimately brought round with the aid of restoratives. The trip on the whole was very disagreeable the high wind and sand beicg very trying, and the sad and sudden death of young Cole cast a gloom over the picnickers. The home train reached Feilding sometime after 11 o'clock.
