Birmingham Motes.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) During thn utorm which passed over the township on Sunday one of the telegraph posts was struck by lightning with great force, the post being cut in two, portions being thrown along the road chains away. The lightning evidently struck the post right on the top. Telegraph communication is not cut off, as the wire is like Mahomet's coffin — suspended between heaven and earth. During the storm fihe lightning passed by a boy, who afterwards had a severe pain in his bead. The weather now is very fine. The anniversary services in connection with the Wesley an Sunday School were held yesterday. The attendance was affected by the unfavorable weather. Mr Dewsbury, of Palmerston N., officiated afternoon and evening. In the afternoon the sermon (which was from the 23rd Psalm) was addressed mainly to the children, who were deeply interested. During both services anthems from the Children's Hosunna were rendered by the children in a manner which reflected great credit on tbose whose trained them. Mr W. Grace and Mr Wingate, both of Palmerston, accompanied the children on the violin. It was extremely kind of these gentlemen coming such a distance. Miss Laing sang a solo and alep presided at the organ. The prices are equal to former years and will be distributed on Monday evening, the 18th iast.
