In the chess tourney in the seventh round, Pleasants, Bangitikei, beat Hook* ham, Canterbury; Barnes, Wellington, beat Anderson, Canterbury ; Mellor, Dunedin. best Gifford, Bulls; Maeon, Wellington, beat Grierson, Auckland; Cocks, Wellington, beat Edwards, Dunedin ; Meldrum, Bangitikei, a bye. Cocks is leading, having won five and lost one.
