Autumn. < Mar. 27 — Dunedin J.C.s Anniversary. i April 6, 7, 11 — Auckland R.C's Autumn 1 April 19, 20— Canterbury Autumn. 1 i On a visit at the present time of the year to Mr W. F. Mcßeth's farm at the < Kiwitea, a fine lot of thoroughbred brood mares with lengthy pedigrees showing relationship of some of the fastest performers in New Zealand may be seen, in fact quite a number of these mares have good records on the turf. Mr McBeth has been creating a name for himself for some time as a breeder of blood stock, and when last year he added the St. Ledger- Radient horse Handsome Jack to his stud, chiefly for his own use, even a greater interest was centred in bis blood stock, one of tbe chief amongst which is that fine old Traducer mare Jenny Lind, many of whose progeny have been amongst our best performers. The Papapa^Jenny Lind mare Propeller, the winuer of several good races on this coast looked very well with a fine Handsome Jack filly foal at foot, while Perla, a full sister, also looked well. Amongst Mr Mcßeth's young stock were a 3-year-old Ascot-Propeller gelding, rather on the small side but showing good quality ; a 3 year old Ascot-Perla colt wbo, although rather poor at present, is well grown and sheuld develop into a good hurdler ; a 4 year old brown filly by Huntsman-Jenny Lind sbould give a good accouut of herself ou the turf, as also, should a 8 year old Ascot- Jenny Lind colt ; but the " plum" of the lot is a ten-months old Haere Jenny Lind colt, wbo is welKgrown for his age, shows splendid quality and is the mak-f ings of a beautifull cross-country horse with plenty of pace, and is a credit to any stud farm. Mr Mcßeth bas, besides those mentioned, several other brood mares and a number of youngsters of aristocratic breeding oa his farm. Amongst the brood mares — almost all pedigree — which have been sent from all parts of the coast to, visit Handsome Jack are the following : — J Welford's Constance, who has a magnificent Handsome Jack filly foal at foot, which shows fine quality ; D Scott's Veracity, Pandora, Mistletoe, Armadilla ; Mr F. Brookie's (of Lower Rangitikei) Daphne, a daughter of Tim WhifflerLaurel ; Mr C. Bull's Ahua mare Lady Aorangi, wbo has a fine Handsome Jack foal at foot ; H. Burn's Marminga, the dam of the) hurdler Awarua ; also, Evelyn ; Stacey's iof Hawkes Bay) Lady Bab ;R. Shortall's Eve ; J. Bruce's Finesse ; E. Bell's Slip ; a Don Juan mare owned by Mr Laing ; a Hippo campus-Storm mare. Altogether some fifty mares are visiting Handsome Jack this year, and from tbe names menI tioned it will be seen they are amongst tbe pick on the coast ; quite a number of tbem visited bim last year and have now foals at foot to this son of St. Ledger, and there is not a weed amongst them, all showing the makings of a fine, upstanding class of horses. An interesting match for £25 aside between the polo ponies Princess May and Vanity will be decided at the Palmerston racecourse on Boxing Day.
