Feilding Borough Council.

The Feilding Borough Council met last evening. Present Crs Goodbehere, G. W. Fowles, P. Thompson, G. fl. Saywell, and W. P. eid. Cr Goodbehere was voted to the chair. The minu.es of tho previous moeling were read and conlirmed. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : — From Hayne aud Lloyd requesting lhat their names be taken off rate roll for Mr Keen's premises lately occupied by them. -Mr Keen's consent to be obtaiued. From the Mayor, W. A. L. Bailey, apologising for non-attendance owing to unavoidable absence in Palmerston. From the President Bathurst Federa-. j tion League, inviting this Council to send a delegate to Federal Convention to be held on November IGth. Fmm F. J. Mansell requesting that W. W. Corpe's name be placed on rato roll iv place of his for section 161, suburban ; also, from W. W. Corpe agreeing to same — Agreed to. From F. Owen and W. N. Cathro re questing change of names on rate roll from former to latter for sections £.61, 302, and 3i'>b -Agreed to. From A. 11. Trnebridge, submitting sections 426 aud 427 Weld street as the site for gasworks. — Consideration deferred till special meeting on Thursday next. From Goodbehere and Richmond solicitor for J. Ruff, stating that Mrs G. Kirton had purchased sections 67 aud G9, suburban, aud requesting that the names be altered on rate roll accordingly. From G. Kirton, captain Manchester Rifles, with reference to the Boro'igh Inspector's report that the Volunteer Hall was not constructed according to the bye laws with respect to iugres's and egress-, stating that the plans were submitted to and approved by the then Major aud t1.3 Chairman of Public Works before the erection of the building was commenced. From Borough Inspector, a report in which he stated be had registered 158 dogs during the year and was now issuing summonses against defaulters ; aho. that according to carriers' bye-law No, 2, carriers were required to apply for renewal of licenses not later than December 15, and asking if he should serve notices on carriers accordingly.— To be informed that he is expected to carry out the bye-law as it stands. From F. Fla/all, Borough Inspector, re increase of salary. — Referred to the Finance Committee to report. From W. Baker, W. Reid, G. E. Little, aud C. Carr, complaiuing that the dog tax was collected in au unsatisfactory manner, as it was only recently that the collector had taken steps to collect the tax, whereas if collected earlier in the year worthless and ownerless dogs would be destroyed and sheep- worrying prevented. | From J. Wood, giving notice that he intended to appoint Mr R, F. Haybittle as bis substitute to sell by auctiou. From F. Rink, stating he would commence his contract on West street on the 7th instant. From Chairman Taranaki Hospital aud Charitable Aid Board, urging united action in the direction of altering the system of charging charitable aid as a direct tax on land to making it a charge on the consolidated revenue of the colony. — Held over till next meeting. Accounts amounting to .£7O lis 8d were passed for payment. Proposed by Cr Fowles, seconded by Cr Thomson, That this Council is satisfied that the trustees of the Drill Hall have complied with the Act as regards means of egress. — Carried. Resolved, That the following alterations be made ou rate roll : R. Bowler, for section 779; J. A. B. Wilson, for section 97 ! Isabella M. A. Brown, for section 85 ; .T. S. Palmer, section 287 and part 288 ; L. E. Reade, section 232. Proposed by Cr Fowles, secouded by Cr Thomson, Tbat tenders be called for the erection of a timber bridge in Port street ; tenders to be in by nest meeting. — Carried. Tbe Couucil thenadiourned.
