Wool Sales.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Dec. 4. Considerable interest was taken in first of the series of wool sales for the season, which took place to-day. About 3500 bales were offered by various brokers, the great bulk of which was dis* posed of at satisfactory rates. In cases wbere sales did not take place it was due mainly to the reserve placed on lots' by growers, wbich were higher in proportion tban prices ruling in the London markets. Lustrous and good condition wools were eagerly competed for, but inferior samples were also in good demand. The competition was brisk for locks and pieces. There was a good attendance of local and English buyers, and the qaantity catalogued was nearly donble that of last year. Aucklaud, Dee. 8. , At the wool sales there were about 4500 bales, of which number 8600 were disposed of under tbe hammer, aod tbe bulk of tbe remainder were subsequently sold privately. The fol. lowing prices ruled :— Long wool, 6d to 8d ; crossbred, 6d to 7fd ; pieces, 4§d to sfd ; and bellies, 4d to 5Jd. The best price of tbe day was obtained for 51 bales sold by G. W. Binney and Sons for 8d per lb. Tbe clips all round were heavier in grease and sligbtly shorter in staple, due to the dry weather and the early date- of the sale.

Mr M. Cohen, of Palmerston North, received a private wire from Wellington stating that the wool sales held yesterday were well attended and tbere was keen competition. The foUowing prices were obtained ;— Superior fine crossbreds up to B§d ; ordinary, 7-Jd to 7£d. Compared with London /alues, these prices are very good.
