FEILDING J.C. SPRING MEETING.
SECOND DAY.
The second day's races in connection with the above club were held yesterday, when the weather continued fine. Taking it on the whole this was one of the most, if not the most, successful race meeting yet held by this club. Everything passed off pleasantly without a single hitch and the stewards and other officials are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts. There was, again, a good attendance of the public, who wero well satisfied that this meeting is developing into one of the most important country race meetings in New Zealand. The fields were all lar^e, ond the finishes close, as might be expected with Mr J. E. Henry's handicapping Glenelg again annexed the b\% hurdles, paying _;11 I2s to his supporters. Gold Cup secured the double in The Shorts and the Railway Handicap, while while Titoki won the second Hack Flying. Lsda won the big money after a splendid finish. The largest dividend was £18 14s on the Railway Handicap. The amount passed through the machine which was worked by Messrs Naylor and Kpriegin?, was £3848, as against £3139 for the second day last year, or a total of £7841 for bofh days, being an increase on the two days racing over the last 9pring meeting of £1121. Mahaki was first to move and led past the stand for the first time hard held and was closely followed by Blarney and Tuhiwai in the order named. Mahaki still held the lead round the back of the course, while Leda improved her position to pecoud place and Loreli going up led into the straight with Mahiki. Coming down tho straight, Leda come fast and secured a victory after an exciting finish hy a short half length, Rip Van Winkle being about a head behind Loreli, Tuhiwai fourth and Mahaki fifth. Return went to the front going round to the back of tho course and led all the way, although Emerald, Storm King and Annie tried bard to get on terms with him and he fiuished half a length in front of the horses named after a good race. Watt) 1 Mr A. Smith's Errand Boy, 7st 121 b (A. Hanson) 2 Mr J. P. Belcher's Sedgebrook, 7st2lb (G. Price) 8 Also started — Torpina Bst 81b, The Miser Bst 21b, Barshot 7st lllb, Aphony 7st 81b, Umslopogaas 7st 81b, Reality 6st 71b. Umslopogaas and Torpina's colors were first to show in front from a splendid start. Going round to the back of the course Gold Cup went to the front followed by Torpina and Umslopogaas. Comine into the straight Errand Boy and Sedgebrook made a bid for pride of place without success, a length separating the former fiom the winner, the same distance separating the second and third horses. Totalisator £580; dividend, £14 14s. Time, Imin 44 3 ssec. Final Hack Flying, of 30 soys, second horse to receive 5 soys from the stakes. Six furlongs. 108 Mr J. R. McDonald's Titoki, 9st lib (C. Jenkins) 1 37 Mr H. G. Shannon's First Shot (H. Fairbrother) 2 60 Mr J. Prosser 's Milford, Bst 41b (G. First Shot led to the straight, when Titoki was brought to the front and succeeded in securing the judge's verdict by a neck after a smart gallop down the straight. First Shot was closely followed by Milford, Acme and Tbe Archer in the order named. Totalisator £460 ; dividend, £3 16s. Time, Imin 18sec.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, Dec. 3. Mahaki's victory in the St. Andrew's Handicap, Feilding, yesterday, had the effect of raising the son of Ingomar to second favorite for tho Auckland Cup, 6 to 1 being now the best price obtainable about bim. No penalties aro attache*! to the conditions of the Auckland Cup, Mahaki's impost remains unaltered.
