AUSTRALIANS V. NEW ZEALAND

(Per Press Association ) Christcuurch, Nov. 27. The match; Australian Eleven v. New Zealand Fifteen, was continued to day in magnificent weather, aud ou a splendid wicket, with 5000 spectators present. The game went against. New Zealand during the day owing to the weak and seemingly nervous batting of the ma* jority of the men, and bad it not been for the determination of a few the innings would have resulted in a disastrous collapse before the lightning like deliveries of Jones and Giffen's wily ones. A bad start was made, 3 men being out for 7 and 4 for 17. The innings close at 129. Ridley.lWilliams, Wilding, and Neill all batted confidently whilst Holdship and Hay lent some assistance. Jones secured most of the wickets, his pace being something unusual, and backed up by very five fielding. The second innings of the New Zealand team opened badly, Mills being : bowled at once ; but, on Williams joining Cuff, the Australian bowlers were defied and 74 was on the score sheet at the drawiDg of the stumps, with both men in. Cuff 47 and Williams 25. Cuff batted brilliantly, most of his strokes being very crisp and clean.
