Fresh tenders are invited, to be in by November 24th, for mail service, twice daily, between Feilding and Fowlers. Dates on which Mr F. Y. Lethbridge will address the electors at several centres of the electoral district of Kangitikei are advertised to day. Major Pole-Penton, who bas been selected for the position of Commandant of the New Zealand Forces, will arrive in Wellington from England on the 26th instant. Mr J. J. Bagnall addressed a crowded meeting in the Opera House, Wellington, last evening on the subject Liberty v. Prohibition. His speech was similar to that given in Feildiug and be was well received. Our readers are reminded of Mr Walker's lecture on Temperance in the Drill Hall this evening. Mr Walker's reputation as a platform speaker and his perfect mastery of tbe subject should draw a large house. Tbe bicycle road race in connection with the local cycling club will be held tomorrow afternoon, starting at :*5.30. The course is from the Kiwitea stream to Manchester Square. At the eoncin sion of the race a club run will be; held to Awahuri. Mr Billens, photographer, of Marton, took a " spook" picture of tbe group as setubled at tbe ceremony of the opening of the Apiti-Oroua bridge by the Pre mier. It is interesting and very well done. The large picture taken is also very good. Tbe secretary of the Feildiug Public Library reports the following new mag azines that have come to hand are as follows : — St James' Budget, Punch papers, Tbe Graphic, Review of Reviews, The Australasian, Illustrated Loudou News, The Leisure Hour and Tho Nine teenth Century. A remarkable mental and physical feat by a Taranaki girl is mention in a local paper. She had been ill in bed for three weeks prior to the examination and tbe fact of not passing preyed on her mind to such an extent that she got out of bed, walked to school, aud passed the standard with flying colors, going back to bed on returning home. Christchurch Truth says .— During the time Mr (x. W Russell was addressing a meeting at Fendalton recently, some mischievous ndividuals whitewashed his korse and trap. It is hard to see the point, of such a practical joke, but perhaps the perpetrators could give an explanation satisfactory at least to them selves Mr R.E.N. Twopenny, formerly editor of the Otago Daily Times, who has for some time past been in the editorial charge of the Australasian Pastoralists' Review, has sailed for London by the Massilia, as the representative of the Australian froaen meat companies. Mr Twopenny is charged witb the important duty of approaching the London banks and financial houses having Australian pastoral interests with a view to securing their co-operatiou in placing tbe Australasian frozen meat industry on a sound commercial footing in the United Kingdom. A London correspondent writes '. — Since the Royal Phc-tw, held ac the end of last Jane, the Radiator buttermaker. wbich makes butter from Pasteurised milk in a minute, has been at work at the Midland Dairy Institute near Derby, and I hear that it has given great satisfaction. So highly is the Pasteurised butter appreciated by consumers in the town to which it is sent, that some of them complain whenever, through shortness of the supply, butter made in the ordinary way is sent to them. This is not surprising, because the flavour of this batter is very fine, and it keeps sweet without any preservative at leaet four times as long as ordinary fresh butter. A social in connection with the Apiti Oddfellows Lodge was held on Friday evening last in Guy's Hall. There was a large attendance and the social was a success in every way. The music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs J. i Curreen, E. Curreen, Hargreaves and W. Trevena, and Mr F. Pawson made an efficient M.C. During tbe evening songs were given by Mrs Starr and Miss Gascoigne ; duet, Mrs Starr and Mr Hargreaves ; cornet duet, Messrs Chelburg, and E. Curreen ; violin duets, Mr J. Curreen and daughter, Messrs Trevena and E. Curreen, and H. Osborne and E. Curreen. Great credit is due to the secretary (Mr H. Houten) and the committee for the tasteful manner in which the hall was decorated and the courtesy entended to the visitors. There was a large attendance of children and adults at tbe Band of Hope meeting last evening. Regret was expressed that there was not sufficient seating accommodation. The following took part in the programme ; - Recitations by Stanley Shearer, Eva Carthew, and Phoebe Thompson ; dialogues were well received from Masters Carthew and Bagnall, also from six girls, as nnrses, each with a doll as a baby, dressed to suit, which created loud applause. Mrs Reader's children's chorus was a pleasing success. Miss Ross sang a solo nicely and pianoforte duets were given very well by the Misses Brennan and Thompson ; piano solos were rendered by Miss Valentine (with bell accompaniment) and Gracie Taylor and Janet Bray. Mr Andrew and Mr Thompson gave short and suitable addresses. Several child-ren-signed the pledge and took cards. There was a large attendance at the meeting of the Feilding Starr-Bowkett Society held last evening, when almost every member was present. The interest was created by the fact that the first allotment of LIOO was to be made by bailott, and the drawing resulted in favor of Mrs J. Wood. This loan will be re paid at the rate of 3s 4d per week in addition to tbe ls a week membership sub scription, In about another two or three months another share of LIOO will accumulate, when a ballot will be again taken, but tbe person who drew tbe last allotment will be debarred from auy chance of securing it unless tbe holder of a second share. Now that the society I bas made a fair start tbe shares will accumulate faster aud some benefit will be I derived by members who will be enj couraged to take a livelier interest in the ! Society. >
