Manchester Road Board.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Saturday last. Present — Messrs F. Y. Letbbridge (chairman), H. J. Booth, D. Thomas, W. G. Pearce, J. Purkiss, and G. Wheeler. The minutes of last meeting were read and duly confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows :— From C. J. Wycberly, Ashurst, asking the Board to s/rant him permission to erect a verandah to his premises. — Granted. From M. Henaghau, drawing attention of the Board to tho bad state of the road in front of his property at Stoney Creek, and offering to supply the Board with metal to repair the road free of charge.- It was decided that the Board, having no funds iv hands for new works, could not undertake to repair the road. From G. Foster, ranger, enclosing a list of the stock impounded. From the Rangitikei County Council, forwarding a statement of accounts iv connection with the Onepuhi bridge, showing the amount due by Manchester Boad Board to be £'392 ls Bd, and requesting that a cheque he forwarded for the same. From the Rangitikei County CouHcil, referring to a letter which the Board had not received from the Council in reference to the Onepuhi bridge. From A. Griscoe, in reference to a drain at Kaumai. — Received. From Treasury, stating that the sum of .£2O had been passed to the Board's credit in connection with tho loan account for the construction of the Stoney creek bridge. From Rangitikei Count}' Council, stating that the decking of the Onepuhi bridge on tlie 801't span was unsafe for traffic, and should be repaired. From J. S. Mills, Hon. Sec. 1.0. G.T., Cheltenham, requesting the Board to provide a supply of water for drinking purposes for man and beast ou the Kirn bolton road. - It was decided that there was already a sufficient supply of water on this road. From J. Donaldson, Midland road, asking for permission to erect a fence over the boundary line. Granted. From M. Behreur, asking than the name of Mr Morseman should be placod on the rate roll for sections 91 and 92, Halcombe, and the names of Mr Quarrie for sections 58, 59, and 60. From the Fitzherbert Road Board, asking this Board lor a detailed statement of how the money was intended to be spent on the public road through Mr Cotter's property. From the Colonial Secretary's Department, Wellington, stating that the result of the poll to enable the Board to borrow Ll5O had been gazetted. From the Lands aDd Survey Department, Wellington, stating that the resolution passed by the Board re erecting the bridge over the Manawatu river ac i tha Lower Gorge ferry wouid be considered. From the Treasury, Wellington, stating i that the sum of L 557, on tho loan acI count of L 957, had been remitted to the ! credit of the Board. Mr Gardener waited on the Board to ask them to make a deyiation in the road to his property at Fitzherbert to enable him to escape a swamp. The deviation would necessitate the Board purchasing about l.j acres of land from Mr Cotter. The Fitzherbert Road Board were willing to contribute a share towards the cost of the deviation. — It was decided that the clerk should see Mr Cotter and report on the matter. It was resolved that the Engineer re- [ port on the gates erected by Mr Cotter ; across the road through bis property. ! THE LOCAL BODIES CONFERENCE. | The following local bodies wrote stating ! the names of their delegates to the Con- | ference of Local Bodies to be held to enquire into the nature of the traffic on the public roads and to frame bye laws to regulate such traffic : — Fitzherbert Road Board, the Chairman ; Kiwitea County Council, the Chairman and Cr Williamson ; Pohangina County Council, the Chairman; Rangitikei County (Council, the Chairman ; Manawatu Road Board, Mr D. Buick. After some conversation on the subject it was proposed by Mr Lethbridge, seconded by Mr Booth, and carried, that the Clerk write to the local bodies asking delegates to meet at this Board's office on the 27th inst, at 1 p.m., and that Messrs Pearce and Wheeler be this Board's delegates. Accounts were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
