Feilding Borough Council.

o The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held last evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr W. A. L. Bailey). W. Reid, W. G. Haybittle, W. Shearer, P. Thomson, E. Goodbehere, G. H. Saywell G. W. Fowles, J. Gould. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows: — From the following, applying for a change of names on rate roll : — L- E. Reade in place of J. C. Thompson for section 232 ; J. A. B. and S. Wilson iv place of A. Eaapp for section 67 ; J. S. j Palmer in place of Barrett, section 287 ' and part 288 ; Miss T. Brown in place of S. S. Ratliff for section 85 — Alterations could not be made as applications were within a month of an election, but must be held over until after the Mayoral election. From Mrs Short applying for medical attendance to and medicine for her son. A resolution that the requests be granted was negatived, several councillors being of opinion that the patient should be sent to the hospital. The Public Works Committee reported that they had no recommendation to make with respect to W. S. Hill's complaint. From the Borough Inspector a report ; also, that bis remuneration be increased from 14s a week. From Bell, Gully and Izard, stating the Council were liable for the costs in» curred by the Wellington Harbor Board in connection with the electric lighting scheme. From Mrs Hamilton, asking for a re duction of rates on two shops owned by her which bad been empty for fifteen months. From £> Johnston, asking that the footpath in front of his residence bo formed. From J. Hugli, asking who authorised the asphalting in front of his property and re the account rendered to him for .£4 10s. Cr Fowles explained that he had written to Mr Hugli on the matter and he understood the explanation was satisfactory. From J. H. Hooper, drawing attention to watcrtable in front of his premises. From J, Prior, stating he was proceeding with the appeal case Flavell v. Colonists Land and Loan Corporation. Also, re agreement with gas syndicate. From Finance Committee, a report recommending accounts amounting to £11 9s 6d be passed for payment. — Adopted. From H. J. Blow, under secretary, enclosing Mr Holmes' report on the Makmo stream projection. From T. Evans requesting that something be done to make a rough dray track along Reid's l^ne to the Orona river. — Referred to Public Works Committee to report at nexjb meeting. Proposed by Cr HaVbittle, and seconded by the Mayor, That the members of this Council desire to express their sincere sympathy with Mr G. C. Hill, Town Clerk, in his recent sad bereavement. — Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by I Cr Saywell, That the agreement between the Borough Council and the Gas Light and Power Company as read be approved, and that the same be signed by direction and on behalf of the Borough by the Mayor and Councillor Fowles, and that the common seal of the Borough be affixed thereto. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Gould and seconded by Cr Haybittle, That the Borough Inspector be authorised to take the necessary steps to compel the owners of the Drill Hall to conform with clause 2 of section 401 of the Municipal Corporation Act; and, also, to take the necessary steps to abate the nuisance in Denbigh street. — Carried. Resolved, That Dr Johnston's request for a footpath from the Farmers' Alliance to Warwick street be acceded to on the usual conditions. Resolved, That the application of the Borough Inspector for an increase of salary be referred to the Finance Comto fully report on with regard to bia duties and remuneration received for same ; the report to be in by the next meeting of the Council. The following tenders were received : - For forming and culverting 41 chains of West street— F. Rink, at 4s lid a

chain (accepted) ; Wilson »nd Mactarlane, £49. Forming 22 chains of Arnott street-F.
