The Premier at Petone.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Oct. 27. The Hon. R. Seddou addressed a crowded meeting at Petone last night, but the party did not returu to Wellington until after tha Tilegraph Office bad ctosed. The speech was confined to a review of the work of the session and a defence of tho Government, policy and legislation. referring to the action of the Legislative Council in rejecting so many measures last session, he said that the Chamber must ba brought into touch with the people, and mnst concede the people's jufct demands. He declared that the cardinal plank in tho platform would be land settlement, and in addition there would be settlement of workers in cottages of their own, free and nntnunmelled, without the taint of the closely packed and insanitary conditions of larger rides. As to the classification of civil servants he would like to see the whole service classified. He mentioned that the Fire Insurance Bill and the Local Government Bill will be proceeded with next session. iSpealiiDg on the Old Age Pension Bill, he said that though abandoned its machinery had been included in the Registration of Peoples Claim Bill, which to his delight went through both Houses without opposition. The machinery was now on the Statute Book, and the Old Age Pension Bill would be introduced next session. Ju concluding the Premier said he had no fear of the result of the present elections. Votes of thanks to the Premier and confidence in the Government were carried unanimously, and the meeting broke up amid cheers.
