The Political Campaign.
(Per Press Association.) Chbistchurch, Oct. 26. Mr W. Mclntosh Murray annonnces himself as a candidate for the Lyttelton seat. He states he is a supporter of the Government. Mr G. W. Russell, a candidate for Riecarton, addressed a largely-attended meeting at Addington to-night. He spoke strongly in favor of an Elective Executive, and said if, when Parliament next met, the Ministry, as at present constituted, remained in office, the Liberal Party would insist on the Cabinet representing the strength of the party. Ho advocated the mending of the Legislative Council. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously. Dukedin, Oct. 26. There is a split in the ranks of the Temperance party for the City and Caversham. The Prohibition Council withdrew their delegates from the Temperance Political Committee because the Committee insisted on the Bands of Hope and the smallest bodies having the same voice in the selection of candidates as larger organisations. The Prohibition Council meets to morrow to select candidates, Auckland, Oct. 26. Mr E. Engster, a Swiss, addressed the City electors to night as an Independent candidate. Sir Mauric O'Rorke to night decided to stand for Manukau. A large requisition was presented to him. Wellington, October 26. It is stated that Mr Scobie Mackenzie will stand as an Opposition candidate for Dunedin. The Hon. the Premier addressed a large meeting of electors at the Hutt (Wellington), last eveuiue. A unanimous vote of confidence in the Government was carried.
