Awahuri Notes. — -♦
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Awahuri Assembly brought their season to an end by a grand invitation ball, which took place last Friday nigbt. Altogether it was a great success, there being between 30 und 40 couples present, and everybody seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The music was supplied by Messrs Wilson Bros., of Ashurst. For about two boors during tbe evening a " leap year " dauce was indnlged in, and proved to be very interesting, the ladies showing they were quite equal to the occasion. Messrs G. Mends and Duigan made very efficient M,C's. for their portion of the programme, as also did the Misses Patterson and Neilson for the leap year part. Mr Buick addressed a meeting of electors here the other evening, for which he received a vote of thanks. He also received a rote of confidence as a fit and proper person to represent the Palmerston constituency in Parliament. Those volunteers who were unable to shoot in the competition last Tuesday were allowed to do so on Saturday evening. The additional scores are — Vol. W. Mends, with 2 handicap, 32; Vol. O. Smith, 7 on, 31. The handicappers, I believe, have put up a record, for out of nine competing eight made between 30 and 32 points.
