Browne, settler, of Pohangina, is announced as a candidate for the Rangitikei seat, as an independent Liberal. He will address the electors in the Feilding Assembly Rooms on Friday evening next. Mr J. W. Tolley has decided to contest the Rangitikei electorate and will address the electors at Apiti on Wednesday next (Per Press Association.) Auckland, Oct. 24. Messrs Mitchelson and Miller will decide next'week as to contesting the City of Auckland. Mr Theo. Cooper decided not to stand for Parnell. Mr Massey is out against Major Harris for Franklin. Dunedin, Oct. 23. Mr A. C. Begg, candidate for the City, addressed the electors at the Princess Theatre to night, when there was a fair attendance. He declared himself a Liberal and in favor of Liberalism, but not of the present Government, and he opposed them strongly in general politics. A vote of confidence was declared carried. October 25. The Temperance Prohibition Committee selected the following candidates in view of the approaching general election for the City of Dunedin: — W. Earnßhaw, W. Hutchison and J. M. Hestia ; Waikouaiti, A. Thomson. Strtford, October 24. Mr Hall-Joaes addressed a wellattended meeting last night. He claimed the administration of the Government was beneficial, and the country must be developed if it was to hold its own against rival colonies. He denied the Government posed as a uonborrowing one, if that meant the colony was standing still. He defended the banking legislation, and said the report of both committees completely exonerated Mr Ward. The country would yet insist on knowing who got the benefit of the four millions written off the Bank's account. A vote of thanks to the speaker and confidence iv the Government was carried. Wellington, Oct. 24. Sir Robert Stout announces his candidate for the Wellington City. The Post has excellent authority for stating that Mr H. D. Bell will, after all, be a candidate for Wellington in the Opposition interest. October 25. Up to 5 o'clock tonight nothing was decided re the date of the election. Ministers are departing tomorrow, and it will be decided before they do so. This Day. Since tho electoral rolls were printed in June last, between three and four thousand additional claims for enrollment have been received for Wellington and suburbs.
