Messrs John Holmes and Co. report : — "Wool —The latest cable advices report a quiet tone and firm market all round. Locally there is a good demand, but a general weakness in value. Hides — Market not quite so firm, but parcels are easily placed at late rates, which we quote : Green ox (batchers heavy), 15s to 17s ; cow, Bs. Sheepskins — "Values are unchanged and the demand continues active. Qnotationa — Butchers green (earJy shorn), 4s 6d to f>s 6d ; extra prime, 6s ; medium to good, ;3s 9d to 4s 3d ; country dry skins, sjd to 6d per lb Tallow — The Home market continues easy at last week's quotations. Locally the market is steady at former values, which we repeat — Prime mutton, to £16 per ton ; medium, 4,14 to £14 10a ; inferior, £12 to £I' 6. Wheat— Demand rather dull at late rates, which remain unchanged but we predict an improved tone. Quotations for whole fowl wheat 3s 5d to 3s 7d per bushel ; sacks extra, ex store. Oats — The demand is also inactive for this line, except for cheap lots. Quotations—Prime stout feed, 2s Id to 2s 2d ; Tartar seed, 2s 4£d to 2s 7d ; sacks extra, ex wharf. Chaff -There is every indication of large supplies being landed, consequently prices continue irregular. We give last week's quotations of 60s to 62s 6d, ex wharf (sacks extra) for prime oat sheaf. Potatoes— There is an active demand demand for these, while prices show an improvement. We quote prime table Derwents 70s to 77s 6d, extra store, sacks in. N.Z. Flax — There is an enquiry for fair hemp but without a tendency to increase in values. Fair fibre is worth £9 to £9 10s, f.o.b. Wellington. Eggs — We have a strong demand for fresh eggs and solicit supplies.
