James Smith, a farmer at Tapanui, has beea adjudicated a bankrupt on the petition of the Bank of New Zealand, who got a judgment on an account of an overdraft figuring in the " B " list. Wellington, This Day. The case Union Bank of Australia v. Murray-Aynsley and another is being beard in tbe Court of Appeal. The question involved is whether a sum of i! 1800 lodged in the Bank by Miles and Co. was trust money or not. Judge Denniston decided against tbe Bank who are appealing. Ashburton, This Day. E. G. Wright has consented to stand for Ashburton. Tbe National Association undertake to run his election and to relieve him of tbe mental and physical strain in his weak state of health. Mr Wright bad received a requisition from 500 electors but bad to decline on bis medical man's advice as bis heart will not stand tbe excitement of a campaign.
