HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Wellington, October 8. The House met at 2.30. Mr Seddon said he proposed to ask the Houso to sit ac 11 a.m. on Saturday and the work of the session would practically be concladed on Saturday night, but the House might have to meet on Monday and Tuesday for other business. Mr Cadman moved the second reading of the ■ Government Railways Department Classification Bill. He referred to the great anxiety that existed amongst the civil servants of the colony for classification, and spoke highly of the , ability and energy ef the majority of the , officers of the Railway Department. He ''" said the Bill would not affect the present staff so far as the reductions were concerned. A considerable debate ensued, and the i measure met with unanimous approval. . Among those who spoke were Captain ; Russell, Sir Robert Stout, Mr Seddon, ■ and Mr Ward, all of whom paid a high , tribute to Mr Cadman for his adainisi tration of the railway service. The House rose at 5 30. i After a further debate of a friendly [ character the Government Railway De- ; partment Classification Bill was read a : second time on the voices. , The Native Reserves Act Amendment , Bill passed through Committee. j This Day. i The Mining Act Amendment Bill was considerably altered in Committee and [ was subsequently put through its final i stages on the voices. } The House rose at 4.20 a.m.
