(Per Press Association.'. Wellington, October 8. The Legislative Council met at 2.30. The Chattels Transfer Act Amendment Bill and the Mining Companies Act Amendment Bill passed their final stages. Minor Amendments were made in the Tobacco Act Amendment Bill in Committee, and the measure was then reported with amendments. In Committee upen the Wages Protection, clause 6, providing that the consent of the worker should be no defence in actions for the recovery of wages against the employer, was struck out by 17 to 7. The clause dealing with wages statement to be furnished by contractors, was struck out by 19 to 7. This left only two minor clauses in the Bill, and the Minister moved to report progress, and ask leave to sit again. This was agreed to. The Hon Mr Jones moved the second reading of the Oamaru Harbor Board Leasing Bill, which was strongly opposed by the Hon Mr Shrimski, and the dehate was adjourned. At 5 pm. the Council rose
