(Per Press Association.} Auckland. Oct. 7. Owing to the Waihi Welcome lode having struck the Grand Junction mine a sharp rise in shares of mines adjacent has taken place. The Waihi Grand Junction is in the hands of English capitalists. Napier, Oct. 7. A laborer named McCannaley was, with two others, lifting a heavy stone at the Harbor Board's quarry to-day, when the stone fell and crushed his head. He was removed to the hospital, but bis recovery is doubtful. Wellington, Octobsr 6. The Convention of the Wellington Provincial Christian Endeavour Association onened this afternoon. President Murray in the chair. A large number of delegates were present. Papers were read by the Rev. Mr Muirhead of Palmerston North, " on endeavour and systematic giving," by Ensign Tylford of Salvation Army "on endeavour of Home missions," and by Rev. G. B. Hallowes of Wellington "on endeavour and recreation." A public meeting was he)dl tonight at which various addresses were delivered.
