A Disabled Barque.
o (Per Press Association) Auckland. Sept. 29. The s.s. Richmond, which arrived tbia i morning from Tahiti, brings sews that the Norwegian barque Japes (Captain Salvesen) put into Papete on the 2nd mst. in a disabled condition. She left Sydney on Jane 22nd. with a cargo of blue gum timber for Rotterdam. On July sth a gale was encountered, and from that day there was a succession of heavy gales, during which she carried nway her foretopmast and, sprung a leak. She was making 6in of water uer hour at one time, and the pumps had to be kept going night and day. The heavy weather carried the vessel from latitude 503 eg Sonth right np to 27deg South, when she managed to reach Tahiti. While entering the harbenr there she went agroud, and lost some of her copper of her hull. As she cannot have repairs executed there, it is possible she may come up to Auckland. The captain is communicating with the owners, and will remain at Tahiti till instructions arrive.
