Cricket News.
Members of the Feilding Cricket Club may obtain membership tickets on application to tbe secretary, and as the initial expenses are heavy, we are rerequested to urge members to pay their subscriptions as early as possible. At a recent meeting of the Apiti Cricket Club held in the Apiti Hotel, Mr McMeekan was elected captain, and Mr L. Snow, vice-captain. It was decided to open fche season on the 21st inst. with a match married v. single. A meeting of the Birmingham Cricket Club was held yesterday in Mr Sandeman's office. Mr Matheson presided. The following new members were elected : Messrs Peryman, Whishaw, Alpe, Levett, Harden, and W. Johnston. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary read the bal-ance-sheet, showing total receipts of £9 odd, and expenditure which balanced same ; in addition to this there was a credit balance of L 8 lls 6d, being net proceeds of concert got up in aid of Cricket Club funds. The report further stated that an offer of the cricket ground had been made hy tbe owner for LIOO, and ac several gentlemen had offered to give a guarantee for the amount required he had accepted the offer on behalf of the club. The report also stated that A. H. Tompkins came out first in the batting averages and F. Barlow with bowling. The balance-sheet and report were adopted, and the action of the Secretary in relation to the ground was confirmed. It was further resolved th»t the Cricket Club endeavour, in every possible way, to raise the money required to purchase the ground. It was resolved that a concert be arranged for about Oct. 23, proceeds to go towards ground purchase account. It was decided to open the season with an interclub match should no outside team be coming to play on Saturday, Sept. 26. The election of officers resulted : - President, Mr A. Dick; vice-presidents, Messrs Harrison, Levett, and Matbeson ; Captain, Mr A. H. Tompkins ; Secretary, Mr E. Sandeman ; Treasurer, Mr H. Molntyre; committee, The officers, Rev Peryman, and Mr F. Barlow. The question of joining the proposed new union was discuFsed, and it was decided to wait until the meeting ot the Manawatu Cricket Association before arriving at a decision. Mr Levett was elected delegate to that meeting. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
