Death of Mr C. L. McLean.

« Wo regret to announce the death of Mr C. L. McLean which took place this morning at his rftsidence on the Makino road. The deceased gentleman was a very old colonist, having arrived in Nelson with his family nearly thirty years ago. The late Mr McLean was for some time a clergyman of the Church of England. Subsequently he became Principal of the Nelson College, a position he retired from to take up the practice of the law. He afterwards resided in Bulls, Rangitikei, but removed to Kaikoura where his wife, to whom he was deeply attached, died. He returned to this district and with his daughter took up his residence in the Makino road. His son Charles, a universal favorite and highly esteemed, died a few months ago at BnJls, and since that time Mr McLean's strength gradually failed him, and after a long illness which he bore with patience and Christian fortitude he has departed for his long home. The deceased was a distinguished member of the Masonic fraternity, having held high rank in that body. Among the brethren he was ereatly esteemed for his abilities and very many excellent qualities. His loss will also be regretted by a very large circle of friends in this and other parts of the colony. He leaves behind him an only daughter to mourn the loss of one who wan not only a dearly beloved parent, but an affectionate friend and companion. Wo understand that in accordance with his last wishes, the remains will be removed to the Kaikoura, where they will be finally placed beside those of his deceased wife. They '' were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they woe not divided." So mote it be.
