(Per Press Association.) Napier, Sept. 8. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, commenced to-day, are all but finished, only one charge of assault remaining. The Chief Justice's charge was confined to the case of Mary Anderson, who was charged with concealment ef birth at Petane. He practically instructed the Grand Jury to throw out the bill unless they thought there was priina facie evidence of deliberate intention to conceal birth, The bill was thrown out. Alfred Kirby, a youth, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing crockery, but was released on probation. Dunedin, Sept. 8. Ewen Cameron (16) accidentally shot himself at Palmeraton. He was taking a , loaded gun from a dray, when the charge went off and lodged in his heart, and he died at once. Nelson, Sept. 8. William Anderson, alias Arthur Floyd, the convict who escaped from the Bocksroad gang on Friday last and was captured on Saturday, was sentenced to 34 days on bread and water and nine months , in addition to his present sentence. i Alfred Ellis, for attempting to escape at the same time, but shot down by the i warder, was sentenced to 24 hours's close confinement and two months additional : to his present sentence. Auckland, September 9. i At the Supreme Court in Banco, Justice Connolly deiivered judgment in the case Annie Jane Cassell v. the Huddart i Parker Company. The plaintiff had sued for compensation for the loss of her , husband who died from injuries received while discharging cargo from the Anglian. A ppecial jury gave a verdict of L 258 damages. His Honor set aside this judgment on the ground that the evidence did not warrant the verdict and judgment was entered up for the defend- > ant Company with costs. Mr Napier said there would probably be an appeal.
