o OTAGO v. TARANAKI. (Per Press Association). Wellington, Sept. 1. At Hawera the football match, Otago v. Taranaki, was played. The ground was soft and the weather showery. The game was stubbornly contested, Taranaki winning by 8 to 6. Taranaki did not display the form shown against Wellington and three or four of the team were practically disabled. Otago played a splendid game throughout, their style of playing without wings seeming to nonplus the Taranaki team. Duncan, of the visitors, was especially conspicuous. Armit and Humphries scored for Taranaki, tbe latter's try beiDg converted. Duncan and McLaren scored tries for Otago, but the attempts at gaol were failures.
