The Armenians and Turks.
HORRIBLE ATROCITIES. (Per Press Association.) Constantinople, Sept, 1. There was a million and a half pounds worth of gold in the Ottoman Bank when the seizure was made. One hundred and sixty refuse carts full of corpses were seen on Thursday and some estimate the number killed at 10,000, many women and children being included. The scene in the streets resembled a description of the massacre of St. Bartholomew. The bomb, which was thrown yesterday at Galata, killed a number of soldiers. The representatives of the various nations have notified the Porte that they believe it connived at the massacre, and that no attempt was made to control the mob. For upwards of thirty hours, boys were allowed to parade the streets stabbing tbe bodies of the victims. It is suspected in Berlin that the Government organised the bank episode. Four hundred Moslems have been arrested and charge with excesses. In order to mark their sense of the horrors of the recent massacres all the Embasses declined to illuminate tbeir buildings as usual in honor of tbe Sultan's birthday.
