The Petone Tragedy.

(Per Press Association). Wellington, August 31. The charge against Jas. Shore for the murder of the Jones' is not likely to be gone on with to-morrow and a further remand will be asked for. The impression prevails in Petone that Shore's movements on the night the murder was committed will be satisfactorily explained. The inquest on the bodies of Joseph and Emma Jones, the victims of the Petone tragedy, was resumed to-day. Dr Hislop, who with Dr Scanlan, made the post mortem, were under examination for fully five hours, and minutely described the wounds, particu- j lars of which have already been published. A number of knives found in the house of Shore were produced, and one of these be thought could produce the wound in the male victim, bat to tbe female he thought the knife used in that instance was a two edged one. Dr Scanlan was also examined, but the evidence of both threw no light on the tragedy beyond the fact that the s«ed couple bad died from tbo wounds inflicted, evidently early on Thursday evening. Constable Cox, who had charge of the district, was next examined as to the position of the bodies, &c, and then the inquiry was adjourned. FUNERAL OF THE VICTIMS. The funeral of the victims took place this afternoon, there being a large at* tendance from all parts of the district. The Premier and Mrs Seddon sent a floral tribute. The cortege, which was headed by the Salvation Army band, was very lengthy, and the remains were interred in the Taita cemetery.
