When the steamer Kennedy was in Greymouth a man named Thomas tumbled off the gangway while gome on board and was pitched head first, striking the starboard boat with a great thud, then falling into the riyer. Assistance was quickly at hand, but the unfortunate man never came to the surface. He was a painter by trade. j
