o — A stockman named Jchn Shea surrendered himself to the police at Taroora, Queensland, saying that he had accidently shot a boy. A Melbourne solicitor named James Burn Kideon was suspended for twelve months for having wrongfully used a client's money. All charitable agencies assert that the distress in Sydney was never so acute us at present. Dr Leith N*pipr, the newly-appointed resident surgeon of ihe Adelaide Hospital, and Dr W. Ramsey Smith, resident phyBician, arrived by ihe Ophir. Dr Nupur stales that notwithstanding ihe late dinpate io connection with the Adelaide Hospital, the most eminent, medical men in London were satisfied that, he was doing right in accepting the position of resident surgeon. A telegram from Herberton, Queensland, states that a carpet snake, 16ft long, was recently shot, and was found to be literally covered with cattle ticks. Sidney wharf laborers declare that this is the worst winter they've ever had so far as work is concerned.
