Pollard's Opera Company

Of the opera " Paul Joms," which will be staged in the Assembly Rooms this evening, the Standard says : - " A number of the solos were encored, and the great, est enthusiasm was evinced by those present throughout the entire entertainment. Miss Maud Beatty took the part of Paul Jones in a way which did her infinite credit, and naturally she received a hearty welcome every time she appeared. Miss Marion Mitchell scored a veritable triumph as Yvonne. She acted with much vivacity and sang admirably. Miss Met calf, as the hot-blooded Spanish lover, was also good. Miss May Beatty, as the smuggler's wife, gaye a very suitable interpretation of the part, her charming acting being one of the delights of the eyening. Mr Alf Stevens, the smuggler, and Master Albert, his apprentice, were responsible for repeated bur6ts of laughter, their antics, grimaces, and witty sayings being irresistable Mr Percy as Mosquito King showed that he is steadily developing his superior and versatile abilities, and Mr Noble was as droll as ever in his impersonation of the shipowner and merchant. All the other parts were in capable hands. To listen to the orchestra, under the able conductorship of Mr Pollard, is alone worth the price of admission."
