Christchurch Unemployed.

(Per Press Association) Christchuech, July 11. At a meeting called by the Surplus Labour League, held at Cathedral Square on Saturday night, resolutions were carried— (l) Protesting against both central local governments on account of their heartless inhumanity in refusing to grapple with the temporary aspect with the surplus labour difficulty when it was known so much distress existed ; (2) that it waa the duty of those in authority whether local or central to deal with the great necessity of this kind in such a way so as not to pauperise people by doing out charity ; (3) that it was the duty of the Mayor to say before Government the actual condition of distress amongst many of the unemployed, and a number of people who have no employment whatever.-
