Banking Committee.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, This Day. The Banking Committee of the House of Representatives met this morning. All the members were present. On the motion of Mr Seddon, seconded by the Hon Mr McKenzie, Mr Graham was unanimously elected chairman. Mr Seddon moved the chairman communicate with the committee appointed by the Legislative Council, and ask that committee to meet the House committee in joint conference. Mr Tanner seconded. Mr George Hutchison moved as an amendment that in view of the fact that five out of ten members of committee appointed by the Legislative Council were members of the committee of the Legislative Council that last session eat with a committeo of the House of Representatives as a joint secret committee, which reported in favor of the legislation passed last session, which is part of the subject now to be inquired into, this committee refrains from meeting or conferring with such committee appointed by the Legislative Council. Mr Maslin seconded the amendment. Mr Seddon said the amendment was premature at the present stage, and two separate enquiries would be a spectacle that should not be brought about nntil the House Committee had exhausted every means to arrange a joint confer* ence. The amendment was lost by eight to two, only the mover and seconder voting for it. Mr Secldon's motion waa then agreed to. A sob-committee waa appointed to | arrange the order of business, and the question of the admission of connsel was deferred till the Joint Committee met. The Committee then adjourned till Wednesday at 11.30, when the members of the Legislative Council Committee are expected to be present.
