Football News.

The representative football match between Wanganui and Manawatu was played at Wanganui yesterday and resulted in a decisive victory for Wanganui i after a most uniateresting and one-sided game. Manawatu were lamentably weak, only nine of the team picked turning up, substitutes making up the full number. Shannon was the only Feilding representative who got away. The Wanganui team had all their own vray from the start and won by 32 points to nil. McDonald scored four tries, Peat and Burr two each, and Kiern«y kicked a goal from a mark. Two of the tries were converted. Mr A. Thomson gave every satisfaction as referee. Birmingham will play Kuahine, at Birmingham, and Apiti plays Cheltenham, at Cheltenham, to-morrow. Apiti and Birmingham are leading for the Oroua Union Championship with seven points each, and Colyton comes next with six points, Kuahine four and Cheltenham two. Apiti, from their position, should prove the winners as they have three matches to play, and Birmingham two, but it is possible for Ruahine yet to win as that club has four matches to play. By their victory over the Bed Stars on Wednesday the Pirate II may be looked on as certain winners of the Manawatu Junior Championship for this season for they are leading the Red Stars by three points, the latter being a point ahead of Rongotea. Bat, protests have yet to be decided involving matches played by the Pirates and Rongotea, against the former on the ground thSjt they played senior men. With regard to protests the action of " the powers that be " is most wonderful, for immediately a Feilding man does something which is considered a breach of law his punishment is prompt and sharp while, on the other hand, the Rongotea and Pirate teams are allowed to play to the end of the the season before a decision is arrived at with regard to the protests entered against them. The Palmerston seniors are leading for the Senior Championship with ten points and two more matches to play, while Feilding comes next with 8 points and three matches to play. To secure the coveted honors Feilding will have to win all their matches. The Feilding and Foxton seniors meet at Palmerston to-morrow, and members of the former team are requested to be punctual as the match will have to start not later than 2.15, to enable the latter team to return to Foxton. The Pirate II play Kauhanganui, at Awahuri, and Rongotea play Awahuri, at Rongotea, to-morrow. It is estimated that over LIOO changed bands in connection with the Marton — Hunterville football match on Wednesday. The football match— New Zealand v. Queensland— is to be played at Wellington. _^_ mmimm
